National Cheng Kung University (NCKU)is an institution of higher education in southern Taiwan that originated as a college of engineeringandevolved into its current status as a comprehensive university of diversified colleges, working to achieve its objectives of academic and research excellence. In 1994, the Graduate Institute of Art Studies was founded topromote and enhance the presence of the humanities and arts at NCKU. Institute of Art Studies, NCKU, sets its main focus on exploring art theories, and maps out the curriculum structure in “three disciplines and five categories.” Three disciplines refer to “drama, music and fine arts,” while five categories include “methodology, history, critical review, art theories, and interdisciplinary research.” The objectives and expectations of the institute is to cultivate students to have a solid and comprehensive academic knowledge, and strengthen their ability to do interdisciplinary researches in arts.
