Description
Emerging infectious diseases caused by rare and highly transmissible pathogens are urgent global problems. A laboratory with a high biosafety level, negative pressure environment, and associated experimental equipment, is necessary to comprehensively study these known and unknown highly transmissible pathogens. In this high biosafety level experimental core facility, we can provide the researchers not only the equipment in this facility but also technique training to rapidly face the emerging infectious diseases by identification and isolation the causative pathogens and further developing diagnostic method, pathogenesis research, vaccines development and therapeutic strategies. This scientific exploration is critical and essential for life science, especially for disease prevention and treatment as well as for healthcare system. However, in Taiwan, only a few academic and medical institutions can afford to have such high standard laboratories due to the requirement for the high financial investment for establishment and maintenance and high technique human power resources. Herein our university would like to provide our knowledge and facility to apply the support from the core facility program which is aimed to provide a shared high biosafety level laboratory to assist the researchers in academic and industrial institutions to conduct well-designed experiments involving risk group-3 (RG-3) biomaterials. Also, this core facility can promote the cross-field collaboration to launch novel and innovative technological platforms for further development of diagnostic kits, practical preventive and therapeutic compounds or products. With the support of this core facility will improve the capacity and speed of academic and applied investigations to improve the quality of human health especially in the facing pandemic strength. Additionally, our core facility will collaborate with other certificated institutions for dedicated training staffs with high technology working with high biosafety level pathogens in this core facility as the preparation for the confront with new emerging pathogens in the future.
