Description
This study is designed as a multi-year research project. In the first year research, a series of educational indicators will be developed based on the “Scientific Imagination Process,,and “The Systems Perspective of Imaginative and Creative Education”. More specifically, this study will explicitly highlight some effective approaches for educators to create a nurturing learning culture to promote the learners’ imagination in three different imagination stages respectively (namely, Initial Stage, Dynamic Adjustment Stage, and Virtual Implementation Stage). In the second year investigation, the researcher will collaborate with some science competition awarded teachers and some educators who are very experienced in promoting imaginative education programs. Mainly based on the newly constructed imaginative education indicators, we will collaboratively develop some user-friendly teaching strategy, framework, teaching materials, and evaluation methods for embedding imaginative elements in the Science and Technology Subject. The focus of the third year research is to conduct some experimental teaching and utilize mixed methods approach to evaluate the impact of the experimental teaching. The researcher will build long-term mutual-beneficial working relationships with scholars in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore. The scholars can help administer the newly developed imaginative education indicator questionnaire, and help conduct an international comparative study on the implementation of imaginative education in theses Chinese-speaking countries and territories. The central focus of the fourth year research is to revise the indicators and questionnaires, and redesign the teaching strategy, framework, materials, and evaluation methods. Some teacher training workshops will be held to share the research findings and some suggested teaching approaches, with an earnest hope that more educators can join in the promotion of imaginative education. Some detailed implications and recommendations for improving the implementation of relevant educational policies in the future will be provided for the Taiwanese government.
