Energy Conservation Analysis of Transportation – an Example of Public Transport Mode

Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

This project tries to use alternative fuels (diesel, electricity, liquefied natural gas, and hydrogen) as the main power on public transport mode, analysis carbon footprint of life cycle of these alternative fuels, and find out which fuel could mitigate GHG emissions 50%, in addition to study the improvement of health cost. This project uses the specifications of ISO and four alternative fuels as the bus power, to analyze the public transport mode carbon footprint. The benchmark of public transport mode is Kaohsiung public transport mode and the popular route is selected. The four kinds of fuels are diesel, electricity, liquefied natural gas, and hydrogen. The specifications of ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14067:2018 are followed. The functional unit is passenger-kilometers, and the primary data is collected from urban bus companies, while the secondary data is from Simapro 8.0. The results will reveal the carbon footprint output of these four fuels from cradle to grave. To compare the difference of these alternative fuels and diesel fuel, this project will find out which fuels could reach the emission target of 2050. In addition, from the energy transfer, this project will also analyze the mitigation of PM2.5 and the improvement of Disability Adjusted Life Year (DALY).
