Abstract
Hospital information system is generally divided into "hospital management information system", "patient healthcare information system" and "teaching-researching information system". Although most of healthcare institutes have been computerized, the whole information systems have not been fully interconnected yet. Hospital information system, by comparison with the ERP systems used in enterprises, still lacks real-time and integrated transaction data. This research, based on the viewpoint of ERP, discusses the development and implementation process of Taichung Veteran Hospital's Information System. Via the documentation collections, we can understand the state-of-the-art of computerized healthcare organizations. In the case of Taichung Veteran Hospital's, we try to analyze why an organization decides to buy a commercial product or to develop a system themselves. We compare Taichung Veteran Hospital s Information System with ERP modules and we try to find their similarities and differences. We present Taichung Veteran Hospital's hierarchy and information system, the obstacles encountered, and the compromises made between workflow and system. We also study the efficiency of this information introduction, and we give some suggestions to future hospital information system projects.
