Abstract
Due to global climate change, petroleum price hike and greater concerns of environmental protection, natural gas has become a relatively clean alternative energy source. The global demand of natural gas has been rising in the past. After the incident of nuclear power plant tragedy in Japan, several countries have announced plans to switch from nuclear power plants to natural gas power plants. This study focuses on the major issues and trends of natural gas supply and demand in the global market as well as in the Asian market. The pricing models and long-term contracts are the two critical issues affecting the steady supply of natural gas by importing countries. In order to increase consumption of natural gas, a country must stop subsidizing electricity bills and promoting the advantages of natural gas. In order to cope with the emerging demand surge of natural gas, a country must invest in expanding the transportation, handling and storage facilities of natural gas and the capacity and units of natural gas turbines.
