Abstract

The world population is aging in developed and developing countries, which drives the increasing demand in cardiac pacemaker. In the past fifty years, traditional cardiac pacemakers with leads in right atrium and ventricle significantly improved the quality of life and prognosis of patients with bradycardia. Nevertheless, complications and pacemaker-induced cardiomyopathy promoted the advancement in recent years, especially the birth of leadless pacemaker and physiological pacing system. In this article, we summarized the history and progress of cardiac pacemaker, in order to update the knowledge and provide better treatment option for patients.
