Abstract
Lý Văn Phức (1785-1849) a famous envoy of the Nguyen Dynasty who was sent abroad 11 times in the first year of Thiệu Trị Emperor (1841). He served as the Vice Grand Counselor of the Ministry of Rites to Yenjing, China, to pay his respects. He wrote many Sino-Vietnamese works on this trip, such as, Zhou Yuan Za Yong Cao, Shi Cheng Yi Lu, Shi Cheng Zhi Lue Cao, and Shi Cheng Kuo Yao Bian, were adopted in Vietnamese Chinese Yanxing Literature Collection, Moreover, he also wrote Chinese works, namely, Gui Yao Gan Bi Lu, ＂Song of Nan Guan Zhi Yan Jing Zong Ge＂, and Shi Cheng Bian Lan Qu written in Chữ Nôm, but Gui Yao Gan Bi Lu is still under unknown, this is the crucial research text. Besides, Shi Cheng Bian Lan Qu can help to understand more about Lý's mission and route to the China if it be translated. Therefore, this paper presents a comprehensive introduction to Lý Văn Phức's works written in Sino-Vietnamese and Chinese, and the new findings from fieldwork on Gui Yao Gan Bi Lu, also insights while the translation and study on Shi Cheng Bian Lan Qu, to provide a reference for researchers who are interested in this field.
