Abstract
The integration of mindfulness into psychotherapy has been a significant development, stemming from its origins in Zen in the East and the psychotherapy in the West. This article aims to demonstrate the evolution of mindfulness in psychotherapy and its practice. This article reviewed relevant literature, identify three key periods: incubation stage, embryonic stage, and blossoming stage. We applied the framework proposed by Germer et al. (2016) which provides a useful structure for understanding the application of mindfulness in each of these stages. During the incubation stage, psychologists focus on their own mindfulness practice; in the embryonic stage, mindfulness-informed psychotherapy emerges; and in the blooming stage, mindfulness-based psychotherapy becomes more prevalent. Furthermore, this article provide valuable insights to incorporate mindfulness into psychotherapy.
