清人王引之《春秋名字解詁》考論七則

Abstract

This article discusses the relevance between their first names and courtesy names of seven figures in "Chūn Qiū Míng Zì Jiě Gǔ"(Explanation of the First Names & Courtesy Names in the Spring and Autumn Period) written by Wáng Yǐn-zhī (1766-1834) in Qīng dynasty. The relationship between their first and courtesy names of these seven figures are discerned. Some are similar in meaning while some are synonyms. The rest are found to be antonymous.
