Abstract
building may probably collapse and the nonstructural components inside may overturn as the building is attacked by an earthquake. To prevent the functionality decrease and to increase the aseismic capacity of the nonstructural components, a magnetic connector (MCN) is proposed in this study. The material characteristics of the MCN (including the pull force test, side push force test, friction coefficient and ductility capacity (R value)) were analyzed to prevent the nonstructural component damaged due to the insufficient aseismic capability. In addition, the MCN were installed at the base of the nonstructural component to test the response by a near fault time history that occurred in the Hualien Earthquake (20180206) in this study. The final result shows that nonstructural components installed with the MCN would reset effectively and favorably due to the normal force. According to the final results of response in shaking table experiment and the material characteristic testing, a computer model was built to simulate and verify the rationality of real situation. The computer model analysis results were compared with the testing results, which might be a reference for the further research and code making.
