Abstract
Chinese music has a long history. During the development period, a wide variety of musical patterns and forms were created via vast inheriting and dissemination. Based on the diachronic concept, both Chinese traditional music and contemporary music were being developed. In synchronic concept observed in Mainland China, there were a variety of different styles of music presented at the same period of time in different regions. Traditional music converts and evolves with time and space, and may be influenced by social changes to gradually become modernized, which causes the complex phenomena of music as well as the reason why the academia continue to focus on this important research subject. In the first part of this research, the scope of traditional Chinese music is sorted and categorized and the modern Chinese folk orchestralmusic as the theme of this research is to be explained. Next, the research discusses cross-cultural music, transnationalism, and the cross-cultural music theoretical frame of this research. Thirdly, the discussion is on the causes and phenomena of overseas dissemination of the modern Chinese folk orchestralmusic. The fourth part is an analysis of the phenomena of modern Chinese folk orchestralmusic that spread cross-culturally to Taiwan and Hong Kong. The fifth part is an analysis of the phenomena of the modern Chinese folk orchestralmusic that spread cross-culturally to Southeast Asia. Then, what follows is an analysis of the phenomena of the modern Chinese folk orchestralmusic that spread cross-culturally to the United States. The conclusionis about the special effects on contemporary music caused by cross-cultural dissemination of modern Chinese folk orchestralmusic. The research utilizes analysis and argumentation method to explore the cross-cultural phenomena of the modern Chinese folk orchestralmusicthat spread overseas, and hopefully, the results could benefit the research on the diversified development of contemporary modern Chinese folk orchestralmusic styles.
