Abstract
This paper presents a design of a new line-start synchronous reluctance motor (LSSynRM) that has a markedly robust structure, vibrates little, and is lighter in weight. These advantages stem from the combination of flux barriers with a 3-D net structure achieved by the 3-D printing technology. In addition, the lamination and the 3-D printing performance of the induction motors, SynRMs, and LSSynRMs, respectively, are compared. The characteristics are investigated experimentally and analytically by using a prototype and a finite element analysis tool.
