Abstract

In this paper we propose a novel architecture for IP/TV viewer, namely IP/TV JViewer, for presenting live multicasting RTP streams on the high-speed Internet. Differing from the IP/TV Viewer originating from Cisco which is built upon Microsoft ActiveMovie technology, IP/TV JViewer is developed on the basis of Java JMF technology to tackle the cross-platform issue. A Java-based Relay Agent is also designed for sending RTP streams across multicast-enabled routers in the network environment with less cost. Furthermore, this architecture can be adapted to any IP multicast platforms accommodating to a variety of AV signals media sources.
