Abstract

A new, effective method that has been developed by the authors (1), (2) for the kinematical analysis of a ball bearing operating at different rotational speeds and under the loads applied in two directions is employed here to analyze several velocity parameters created at the contact surfaces of three components of a ball bearing. This method provides the advantages of no limitation in the load magnitude and no restriction in the load direction. These velocity parameters allow us to take the ball life into account in the evaluation of bearing fatigue life. The advantage of this method is the ability to obtain different contact angles within two raceways, which are theoretically varying with a bearing's position angle. Then, the effect of variable contact angles on the fating life of a ball bearing is thus investigated at various operating conditions. The impact of ball life on the fatigue life of a ball bearing is also evaluated.
