Abstract

This paper presents a novel scheme for performance analyses of a stand-alone three-phase delta-connected self-excited induction generator (SEIG) with only one excitation capacitor. An approach based on three-phase induction machine model is employed to derive dynamic equations of the studied SEIG. Three different configurations, single-phasing mode of operation, Steinmetz connection I, and Steinmetz connection II, on both dynamic and steady-state characteristics of the studied SEIG are examined and compared. Experimental results obtained from a laboratory 1.1 kW induction machine driven by a dc motor are also performed to confirm the feasibility and effectiveness of the analyzed results.
