A numerical study of flow dynamics in an annular combustor with multiple swirl injectors

Abstract

Injector dynamics in a sector rig of an annular combustor with the multiple swirl injectors has been investigated by large eddy simulation(LES) and proper orthogonal decomposition(POD) method. The present study deals with the LM6000 lean premixed swirl-stabilized annular combustor with three injectors. Vorticities moving against the neighboring injector collide near the boundary surface among the adjacent injectors. The pressure distribution periodically repeats from M-shape to W-shape. The frequency 5,800Hz related with the second tangential and radial fluctuation mode was observed as the dominant frequency. The more detail pressure fluctuation modes are obtained by POD analysis.
