Abstract
A novel approach based on multiprocessors is proposed in this study to solve the economic dispatch (ED) problem. The penalty factor (PF) and the incremental transmission loss (ITL) are always the primary considerations in solution techniques. The proposed method evaluates the ITL term on the basis of the parallel load flow algorithm. A power system, is separated into as many subnetworks, referred to as a bordered block diagonal block form (BBDF) matrix, as the processors of a parallel computer. Simulation results of the IEEE test systems and Taiwan Power Company (TPC) 288-bus system confirm the feasibility of the proposed approach and its capability to implement parallel processing for the ED problem.
