Abstract

This paper is a study on the behaviour of using traditional map of independent traveller, exploring to understand what problems map reader face when using a traditional map to get information. The study performed in-depth interview in a user-centric way with a map reader to identify what information the map reader wants to get from the traditional map. Using shadowing and semi-structured interview to know what map readers feel in the process of interacting with traditional maps and to know the experience of using traditional maps in the past. After categorizing and analysing, a user-centric design rule on traditional map must be made and applied to map maker to make traditional maps with user-centric designs to improve the relationship between traditional map and map reader, aside from giving clear and correct information.
