A study on the damping ratio of rubber air entraining concrete

Abstract

The yield rate of hi-tech factories may decrease due to the excessive vibration of machinery and pipelines transferred through RC floors to the foundations of precision tools. To solve this problem and ensure the regular operation of precision tools, this study presents an experimental study of the damping ratio and related mechanical properties of rubber and air entraining concrete, which is made by partially replacing fine aggregate in concrete with #40 rubber powder and addition of air entraining agent. The effect of the mixing ratio on the mechanical properties, such as the compression strength and Young's modulus, of concrete cylinders with different rubber admixtures and air entraining agent is discussed. The results of impulse experiments to determine the damping ratios of cantilever beams made of the rubber air entraining concrete are presented. The experimental results reveal that when the concrete specimens are aged 24 weeks, mixture of rubber replacement ratio 2.0% and air entraining agent ratio 13.0% produced a 177% increase in theirs damping ratios.
