Abstract

We present an innovative, easy-to-use, systematic rapid alert system that uses low-cost mobile sensing to locate dementia patients. Using near field communication tag embedded wristbands, people who find individuals wearing the wristband can provide their GPS location to determine the best response using the features of the proposed system. These features include notifying related service center personnel, nearby police departments, and family members. This will improve the current process of finding missing dementia patients significantly. A pilot program is currently underway in two cities in Taiwan and will be expanded to a national service in 2015.
