Abstract

Flows induced by a high-speed train moving in a tunnel and two high-speed trains passing by each other in a long tunnel are simulated numerically in this paper. Here, an unsteady, three-dimensional Navier-Stokes program is used. Also, a grid bookkeeping technique for overset grid method is employed to track the hole and boundary points between the major and minor meshes. Two kinds of train configuration, named TGV and ICE trains, are chosen for the study of train geometry parameter. For evaluating the aerodynamic effect of train moving in the tunnel, flow calculations of a train traveling in the tunnel and open space are both included for the purpose of data analyses. Further, flows of two TGV trains passing by each other in two different tunnel sizes of 90 2 and 100 m2 are conducted. Time histories of the pressure distributions are presented. Results are also depicted the variations of aerodynamic noise-level for the environmental evaluation.
