Abstract

The concept of levelled incidence matrix is introduced to represent the topological structure of a planetary gear train. Based on this matrix, the authors develop an algorithm for searching all possible fundamental circuits. The equations of motion are derived and proved to be solvable. Finally, a generalized computer program is developed for automatic searching of fundamental circuits, formulation of equations of motion, and generation of solutions. The result of this work provides an excellent tool for the computer-aided kinematic analysis of planetary gear trains with any number of degrees of freedom.
