Abstract
High temperature ceramic composites were obtained by rapid solidification from melts in the ternary oxide system Al2O3-Y2O3-ZrO2. The composition and stoichiometry of crystallized phases were determined by means of XRD analysis. Microstructural features were studied by means of SEM and optical microscopy. Quasi-binary eutectic composites were solidified near the alumina-zirconia binary line. Ternary composites containing alumina, zirconia-based solid solution and yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) showed ordered structures in their SEM micrographs. The formation of quasi-ternary eutectic microstructures was observed.
