An approach combining extension method with TRIZ for innovative product design

Abstract

Innovative design always needs human intelligence. However, conflict problems occurring in design works usually confuse design engineers. The proposed approach which combines the extension method and TRIZ can stimulate idea-generation and resolve conflict problems during design works. The proposed approach is composed of three parts. In the first part, the matter-element model of the extension method can systematically express a design object. In the second part, four matter-element transformation methods of the extension method can be conducive to find the key of innovation on the design object. In the third part, the TRIZ inventive principle can inspires design engineers to solve the conflict problems in the design works. The correction tape device design example successfully demonstrated the proposed approach.
