An Efficient Procedure for Designing Various Series of Centrifugal Compressor Impellers

Abstract

In this study, a new integrated procedure was developed to design centrifugal compressor impellers. It can provide robust guidelines for designers in a short period of time. The procedure uses an in-house program - IMPELLER 1D DESIGN and commercial software - BladeGen and ANSYS. By simply selecting a set of input parameters, a series of impellers for different performance requirements can be generated by this integrated procedure. The procedure was used to design two micro centrifugal compressor impellers with pressure ratio of 1.2. The performance of these two impellers was evaluated by experiment and CFD simulation, and the results confirm that both impellers can meet their designed performance requirements, thus validating the correctness of the current design procedure.
