An efficient quadtree-based block truncation coding for digital image compression

Abstract

The block truncation coding (BTC) is a simple and important technique to compress the digital image data. In this paper, we introduce our image compression method utilizing quadtree decomposition. In order to reduce bit rate and blocking effect, we apply the error diffusion technique. Our extensive experimental results show that the proposed method obtains excellent performances in terms of quantitative evaluation and visual quality.
