Abstract

In this paper, an efficient technique to implement variable length coding for multiple video coding standards is presented. To support multiple video coding standards, many VLC tables must be stored to perform coding procedure correctly. Our proposal is to merge different VLC tables of multiple standards into the most representative table, so the required memory for those tables can be reduced largely. Compared with the direct table-lookup implementation, our design can reduce about 90% of memory size.
