Abstract

This paper presents the analysis of a novel type of flux-intensifying synchronous motor for application to electric scooters. The effect of flux intensifying on two types of synchronous motors (SMs) are studied, i.e. the permanent magnet (PM) SM (PMSM) and synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM). Flux intensifying configuration can avoid irreversible demagnetization and enhance the efficiency of EV traction motors for the most operated points in a driving cycle. The analysis indicates that flux intensifying synchronous motors (in particular flux intensifying PMa-SynRM) are a potential and suitable candidate for traction motors of electric scooter.
