Abstract

Recent results of the magnetic susceptibility χ of crystal specimens of (La1-xMx)2CuO4 (M = Sr and Ba) and YBa2Cu3O7-δ are reported. The anisotropy of χ seems to be a common characteristic of the CuO layers. The spin canting model associated with the tetragonal-orthorhombic transition is proposed to explain the observed nonlinear magnetization vs. the magnetic field curve.
