Abstract
In this paper, an application of Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) to inspect electric power signal variations is presented. The proposed method consists of two major computation procedures, including Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert Spectral Analysis (HSA). While EMD is responsible for the decomposition of signals into a collection of intrinsic mode functions (IMF), HSA describes the time-frequency distribution via spectrum representations. With an effective decomposition as well as a better retrieval of spectrum features, the method owns a competitive time-frequency localization capability, excelling at the detection of disturbances. To validate the feasibility of this approach, several scenarios of disturbance data were tested through the method. Test results supported the method for the application considered.
