Assisting Order Picking and Inventory Tracking in Warehouses with an IoT Gateway

Abstract

With the growth of warehousing, how effectively managing warehousing and inventory tracking without increasing warehousing human resources is a critical problem. Therefore, having a good warehouse management mode is particularly important to reduce human picking and grasp the storage status. In this work, we build a human-following cart equipped with RFID and IoT gateway to help warehouse staff improve order picking efficiency and reduce inventory tracking costs. Furthermore, we design an IoT gateway transport architecture to provide delivery progress in an unstable network environment and enable managers to manage warehouse status by visual interface. Through the integration of hardware and software, this system can help reduce labor costs in an information-based way, and can also assist in the work of advanced warehouse applications in the future.
