Audio compression system by using modified transform coding and dynamic bit allocation

Abstract

This paper presents a new coding technique for high quality audio signals based on modified transforms and dynamic bit allocations. A proposal modified transform based on the fast Fourier transform is employed for time-frequency decomposition (analysis) and reconstruction (synthesis) techniques. In addition, a very simple iterative dynamic bit allocation procedure is used to quantize the transformed coefficients according to the rate distortions theorems. Computer simulation results show that this proposed system, which achieves high audio quality on the rate of 4 bits per sample, possesses low computational complexity suitable for usages of multimedia computers.
