Automatic evaluation of segregation streaks in material samples

Abstract

This paper presents an automatic method for segmentation of segregation streaks in images of low alloy steel. A short run length algorithm is developed for extraction of streak patterns, whose density can be readily measured for evaluation of forging quality.
