Abstract

Analyses of rectangular plates are carried out by using the differential quadrature method in this paper. Basic structural characteristics, such as static deflections, free vibration frequencies and buckling loads, of rectangular plates with classical boundary conditions are investigated. By using the differential quadrature rule and the proposed modified relationships, the discrete equations of the system are derived from the governing equations of plates in the first-order form. The drawbacks of the original differential quadrature method in dealing with specific boundary conditions of rectangular plates are overcome. Numerical results obtained by the present approach are compared to exact, analytical or other numerical solutions. High accuracy and efficiency of the present approach are shown in all cases studied.
