Abstract

Experiments with a pump-modulated Nd:YVO4 laser reveal the following feature: the threshold of occurrence of chaos sharply increases when the laser cavity configuration is set in the transverse mode degeneracy regime. These observations are explained theoretically with a laser-rate equation model.
