Abstract
The PEACE project is designed to exploit a global communication structure that provides a near-minimum solution for a wide class of two-dimensional (2-D) problems, including signal/image processing, computer vision, and linear algebra. The communication topology used has been named the 2-D shuffle exchange and it has been shown that a single, fixed communication structure provides solution times on a parallel computing system that, for many problems, approach known theoretical lower bounds. The project serves to define the range of applicability of the 2-D shuffle-exchange communication paradigm and to establish technological requirements for realization of this class of parallel computing systems.
