Abstract

The generalized phonon density of states (GPDOS) for La2-xSrxCuO4 (x = 0.0, 0.08, 0.12, 0.15 and 0.21) powder samples are determined from inelastic cold-neutron scattering measurements using the TOF-type cold-neutron spectrometer, AGNES, mainly above the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural phase transition temperature. The softening of modes at about 12 meV was observed in the GPDOS for La1.85Sr0.15CuO4. This phenomenon is related with the instability of the K2NiF4-type tetragonal structure.
