Abstract

The analytic method and the finite element-transfer matrix method were respectively employed to study the free vibration of multispan beams with various kinds of boundary conditions. The larger number of elements be used in each span the more accurate rate mode frequencies be obtained. Furthermore, the more number of spans and the less number of elements be used in each span the mode frequencies are also obtained with better accuracy. The mode shape functions obtained from the analytic method were shown to be orthogonal.
