Abstract

A new approach for the whole-field automated digital determination of isoclinic angle and total isochromatic fringe order is proposed. This method uses a plan polariscope with two different filters to grab three polarization-stepped images and calculate the photoelastic parameters, and to compensate the influence of the isochromatic fringes on the isoclinic pattern. The present method allows for the determination of whole-field fringe orders without zero-order fringes. The relevant theory is introduced and test of this method on a circular disk under diametrical compression is demonstrated.
