Abstract

The paper presents an integrated system, KNOTS, for generating optimized numerical control commands that instruct NC machine system to produce complex splining geometry. Sets of twenty-two ordered blade data are used to design and manufacture the curved spline profiles. One referenced linear profile and four splined curve shapes are produced using different tolerance specifications. All these profiles are cut on an available NC milling machine. The effects of design knots on producibility are discussed. The computational procedure and application examples are detailed.
