Controller Design of Renewable Energy Hybrid Power Converter with Energy Storage

Abstract

Due to the high penetration of renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic (PV) generation, the voltage and frequency of the utility grid becomes unstable. To solve this issue, the converter-based power conditioning system (PCS) provides an effective solution for solving the instability problem and improving the resilience of grid. In this research, a grid-connected power conditioning system including PV and battery hybrid power converters is modeled and analyzed. The control strategy is also presented. Finally, the dc bus voltage variation between PV/battery and inverter, and the performance of the inverter output are investigated with the simulation results under various scenarios.
