Abstract

The purpose of this study is to detect the cracks of an aluminum beam and a plate by wavelet transform. A double-cracked beam and a plate with multiple cracks are evaluated by means of discrete wavelet transform in the present research, in which one-dimensional and two-dimensional discrete wavelet transforms are employed to detect the cracks on the beam and the plate, respectively. The results obtained from the experiments are compared with those obtained from the numerical modeling analysis. The experimental results reveal that the proposed modal analysis and the discrete wavelet transforms can effectively identify the damage locations and can be applied to more complex structures.
