Abstract

The main purpose of this study is to detect the multiple cracks of an aluminum plate with stiffeners by wavelet transforms. The wavelet packet node norm is utilized to construct the first mode shape of the plate in experiments and then detect the damage locations based on the two-dimensional discrete wavelet transforms. In numerical analysis, the first mode shape of the damaged plate is simulated by the finite element tool ANSYS, and the damage locations of the plate are detected by two-dimensional discrete wavelet analysis. The results of the numerical analysis and the experimental investigation reveal that the proposed method is useful to detect single crack or multi-cracks of a plate with stiffeners.
