Abstract

Dengue is an old disease known by numerous household names: break-borne fever, dandy fever, three-day fever, seven-day fever, or giraffe fever, to name a few (Simmons, 1931a). Historically, dengue epidemics have occurred in cycles, sporadically emerging and re-emerging throughout the past. Recently, dengue has become one of the fastest spreading human diseases in the world. It is now endemic in over 100 countries, though initially and mainly centralized in tropical and subtropical.
