The aim of this study is to systematically synthesize the design concepts of linear-type satellite antennas deploy mechanisms. The functions and structures of existing satellite antennas deploy mechanisms are studied first. According to the functions, a satellite antenna deploy mechanism consists of a deployment device, a driving device, and a positioning device. The paper is focused on the conceptual designs of deployment devices and driving devices. On the basis of a proposed design process, three existing linear deployment devices, and 8 fundamental mechanism entities, 19 design concepts are synthesized for deployment devices. As for the conceptual designs of driving devices, which are classified into six types based on their structures. From the proposed design process and a chosen deployment device of the rigid open chain mechanism, 10 design concepts are synthesized for driving devices with up to three rigid links and two cables.
