Abstract

The tool change mechanism which executes tool changes between the tool magazine and the spindle plays an important role in machining centers. According to the concept of generalization, graph theory, combinatorial theory, specification, and particularization, this paper presents a design methodology for the generation of all possible design concepts of tool change mechanisms with required topology and motion characteristics. The tool change mechanisms with two and three links are synthesized and shown.
