Abstract

This paper presents the development of a GIS-based freeway traffic information management system (FTIMS) for the Sun Yat-Sen National Freeway of Taiwan. A two-stage analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was employed to investigate freeway management information needs to rank the priority order for system modules development and it was concluded that traffic volume is the most needed information. To develop the system, the GENAMAP GIS software was employed and three modules, 1. cartographic maps, 2. attributes database, and 3. application models, were included in the current prototype.
