Diagnosis of tumor thrombus in hepatic segment of inferior vena cava by subcutaneous injection radionuclide venography and color Doppler ultrasound

Abstract

The authors present a case of tumor thrombus in the hepatic segment of the inferior vena cava (IVC) evaluated with subcutaneous-injection radionuclide venography (SC-RNV) and color Doppler ultrasound (CDU). SC-RNV showed interruption of venous flow in the hepatic segment of the IVC. CDU of the IVC revealed a tumor thrombus and a continuous flow pattern with an increased flow during inspiration. These characteristic findings indicate partial obstruction of the IVC. Both SC-RNV and CDU have their advantages in diagnosing this problem.
