Dielectric constant tunability of ZrO2-doped barium strontium titanate for application in phased array antennas

Abstract

Effect of DC biasing field on the real part of the relative dielectric constant of (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 and ZrO 2-doped (Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 for application in phased array antennas have been characterized. The composites have adjustable dielectric properties. The grain size is maximum for (Ba 0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 doped with 0.5 wt.% ZrO 2 content. The real part of the relative dielectric constant of the specimens decreases with increasing applied DC biasing field. The tunability and grain size have similar trends as a function of ZrO2 contents. The tunability of the real part of the relative dielectric constant for (Ba 0.6Sr0.4)TiO3 doped with 0.5 wt.% ZrO 2 content is about 45.74% and 45.88% at 20 and 40 MHz, respectively.
